Day two of the Boys Select 17 Player Development Camp got underway with practices for each team in the morning. Each practice has started out with the first 15 minutes reserved for the goalies. Hlinka Gretzky Cup goalie coach Kevin Moore was able to chat with Tommy Aitken and Remington Keopple of Team Kelly.
Along with practice, teams were able to interact in different team bonding exercises. One team played a friendly game of kickball in a big field on the campus of the University of Buffalo while another played a strategy game involving a rubber chicken. Not only are these camps developing hockey players, but many players have commented on how they have made and maintained friendships through these team bonding exercises.
Representing the Red, White and Blue
Following the practices, the teams attended a presentation by Hlinka Gretzky Head Coach Pat Ferschweiler on team success at short events, and what type of player he and the staff are looking for. He spoke about representing your country, and what it would mean to put on the red, white and blue jersey.

Coach Spotlight: Brianne McLaughlin
Brianne McLaughlin is one of three coaches at the Boys Select 17 camp that have represented the United States at the Winter Olympics. She skated for the red, white and blue in the Vancouver Games in 2010 and Sochi in 2014, and also played on the U.S. Women's National Team at the IIHF Women's World Championships from 2011-13.
The Robert Morris graduate skated with Team USA right after college, and also played for two seasons with the Buffalo Beauts in the NWHL.
"This is my first camp on the boys side," McLaughlin said. "I've worked two goalie camps on the women's side, and have another one later this summer. It's been good so far." McLaughlin also has a five-month-old son.
